Easter Services

Easter Feature

Celebrate Easter with us at Holy Trinity.
During Holy Week we have Services for everyone starting with Palm Sunday.

Palm Sunday - 29th March
10.30am Holy Communion
6.30pm BCP Evensong

On Palm Sunday we commemorate Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, marking the start of Holy Week. It signifies the final week of Lent, when we celebrate by giving palm crosses, symbolizing the branches laid before Jesus as he rode on a donkey into Jerusalem.
Maundy Thursday - 2nd April
7.30pm Holy Communion with Stripping of the Altar

"Maundy" comes from the Latin mandatum (commandment), referring to Jesus's command to "love one another as I have loved you" after washing the disciples' feet. We have Communion to commemorate the Last Supper, by taking bread and wine as Jesus shared bread and wine with his apostles.  The poignant Stripping of the Altar signifies Jesus' betrayal by Judas in the Garden of Gethsemane.
Good Friday - 3rd April
2pm An Hour at the Foot of the Cross

This is a devotional service, held from 2pm to 3pm (the final hour of Jesus' life) to meditate on the crucifixion, repentance, and redemption. It focuses on the last words of Jesus, the significance of his sacrifice, and personal reflection on sin and forgiveness
Easter Sunday - 5th April
10.30am Family Holy Communion
This is a joyous day when we celebrate Jesus rising triumphantly from the dead. After the Service there will be the traditional Easter Egg Hunt with the eggs representing the empty tomb and Jesus’s resurrection. The hard shell symbolizes the sealed tomb, while cracking it represents Jesus rising to new life. As with all our Services all are welcome.

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello

The following information is specifically for those planning a visit, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning or Sunday evening.

Where and When

We meet at Holy Trinity Church (details here) and our Sunday morning Service starts at 10:30am. For your first visit, we recommend arriving 10-15 minutes early to ensure you find somewhere to sit before the Service begins. When you arrive, you will be greeted by one of our Stewards, who will make you most welcome.

After the morning Service, we serve tea, coffee, biscuits (and occasionally even cake) in the Church Room, next door. This is a great way to meet people, or simply take time to find your bearings. All refreshments are free, but a donation is appreciated.

Accessibility: There is wheelchair access, and a sound loop for anyone who needs it. Please let one of the Stewards know on your arrival and they will help you.

Our Service

Our Sunday morning Service is based on the Church of England Common Worship Holy Communion, with our third Sunday in the month Service being more family orientated. Our worship is dynamic and lively with a mix of traditional hymns and more contemporary songs as we seek to lift up His name together.
Each Service lasts about an hour.
Our Sunday evening Service starts at 6.30pm and we follow the Book of Common Prayer (BCP) format with more traditional music. Occasionally, (usually every two months) we hold a Celtic Worship Service which follows the Iona Community style of worship which is more meditative, and reflective with 'folky' style music led by our Celtic Music Group.
